Sample Itinerary
You will arrive to Nairobi early morning and hop on a domestic flight to Laikipia. Loisaba tented lodge has only 16 rooms in total, giving a generous surface of wilderness per room. This allows high exclusivity for wild observations, enjoy a game drive in the wild.
You will be given a chance to visit the lodge’s sniffer dogs, or why not arrange for a horse back ride.
Loisaba Tented Camp is situated with breathtaking views of Mt Kenya located on the edge of a trail. There is also a water hole below you tent where you can enjoy the wide view from your porch.
You can also lie in the pool overlooking the wildlife below.
Since Loisaba Conservancy is located just next to the equator, you will find the most beautiful night sky. Unique for Loisaba is their Starbeds which is a true African adventure in itself. Handmade, wheeled beds will be rolled out on elevated wooden platforms, allowing guests to sleep under the endless, African night sky.
The accommodation at Starbeds offers a cozy and homely dining room, living room and wooden deck – which is the perfect place for a sunny breakfast. You are guided by a team of traditional Samburu med and Laikipia Maasai Warriors who make this cultural experience memorable.
One of the best ways to see the wilderness of Loisaba is on a safari in Land Rover’s. Whether you choose to leave early in the morning or later in the afternoon, a qualified guide from the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA) will take you across the open plains or along the river beds.
The conservancy is a haven for more than 260 species of birds and 50 species of mammals. Home to elephants, buffalos, grevy zebras and bigger kudu as well as the big cats. Wild dogs are seen regularly. If you are interested in getting to know or meeting Loisaba’s research partners, please let us know.
Another way to see Loisaba is on foot. You will be accompanied by your guide as well as a ranger whose knowledge of local flora, fauna and history is unmatched.
Do an extraordinary activity from the back of a horse and ride the plains past herds of zebras, graceful giraffes or next to the river where hippos are found.
Doing this kind of safari will give you a close connection with the wildlife of Lakipia. Loisaba’s horses have all been bred in the bush so they are used to wildlife. You must have a good skill in riding.
A traditional way of moving from point A to point B on the savannah is from the back of a camel.
For a unique cultural experience, spend an afternoon down in the traditional Samburu village – a great experience where you will see how the Samburu people live, take part in their traditional dancing and watch some of their pearls.
Other activities available and include in your trip are mountain biking, walking with sniffer dogs or fishing.
