Damaraland Camp: Damaraland Camp is the successful result of a partnership between Wilderness Safaris and Torra Conservancy, and has been an inspiration for communities and nature conservationists throughout Africa. In addition, the camp has been built to be as environmentally friendly as possible, minimizing its environmental impact and continuing to express its 4C vision.

Community Partnership: Torra Conservancy
Wilderness Safaris and the Torra Society in Damaraland have formed a successful partnership with the community as their landlord. This has resulted in the conservation of 352,000 hectares. Deserted wilderness flourishes again and poaching has decreased.

Eco-camp: At Damaraland Camp traditional knowledge combined with new technology is used – the eco friendly sand bags has been used to build the walls of the camp as an example. Other sustainable produced biodegradable materials used include canvas, reed, rubber poles and grass roofs. Natural light and convection along with good insulation are useful for reducing energy absorption.

Green Operating System:
The camp is powered by a hybrid system, which combines a diesel-powered generator that charges a bank of batteries which, in turn, supplies a portion of the camp’s electricity via an inverter. Thanks to this, the generator only work for eight hours a day. In addition, each guest tent has its own small solar panel and inverter for driving LED lights as well as a solar powered geyser to provide warm water. Wastewater is treated in a groundwater sewage system, which ensures that the water is clean before it can enter its natural environment.

Pack for purpose: Wilderness Safaris has collaborated with Pack for a Purpose, an ideal organization that provides travellers with updated information about necessary deliveries for community based projects. Guests wishing to contribute can see the list of needs for Damaraland Camp’s community project on the Pack for a Purpose website.

Kuala Desert Lodge: 1996 Wilderness Safaris started a camp near the spectacular Sossusvlei. Since this site had been used for rearing, the wild animals that lived there remained. Today, with careful rehabilitation, the country and its wildlife are back to their former glory.

Kulala Wilderness Reserve:
A comprehensive program was invented to revive old land. The project removed all internal fences and cattle in hope to recover and regained the ecosystem of this area. Subsequently, the fence dividing Kulala Wilderness Reserve (KWR) and Namib Rand Nature Reserve were removed. Thanks to this initiative, there are no obstacles to wildlife movement.

Ongava Lodge:
This lodge is committed to protect and enjoy life in all its natural wonders. Restoring surrounding land and reintroducing the wilderness. Their goal is to share laughter together with guests and create a partnership regarding animal welfare that is crucial to our planet and the health of our souls.

Genuine. Basic. Ongava – Ecotourism for the next generation.
