Conservation is something close to the heart of Alphonse Island. It is committed to protect the unique fauna and flora in the area of ongoing research, rehabilitation and monitoring programs. These programs especially focus on sea turtles, giant turtles, delicate marine habitats and forest rehabilitation. Following commitment to conservation has always been at the center of the mission to create an island closely linked to its natural environment.
The Alphonse Island Conservation Center was found back in 2007 and has ensured that the key aspects of the ecosystem are well maintained and cared for. The ICS team offers activities on the island such as Turtle Patrol, Beach Clean ups, Giant Tortoise viewing and bird feeding as well as watching which guests are invited to join. Without their good knowledge this ecosystem would not be what it is today.
Alphonse Island Lodge provide support through their membership in the Alphonse Conservation Foundation and hotel guests provide the necessary funding for ICS operations through payment of a conservation fee. ICS provide a weekly presentation to keep their members updated and to discuss current, environmental challenges. Books and souvenirs can be purchased from the ICS office, where revenue provide additional financial support for conservation efforts.
